Kromex Canisters.... Turquoise & Pink love!

I have been picking up pieces of these canister sets, since last Summer. So this is just some turquoise love from my kitchen this week. I believe this particular design of Kromex canisters... that I have here for show and tell.... were findable starting in the 1950's. 

I have seen this design of aluminum canister in the colors of....  pink, turquoise, black and yellow.

These were referred to as "Kromex Spun Aluminum Canisters". Which to be honest I am not sure what that exactly "spun aluminum" means. But the sides of them are done with a brush finish. And they have a hard plastic top with a aluminum knob.

Now the down side of having plastic lids... were the stress cracks. And the fading. The bright happy turquoise gets a little pale over time. And the black letters start to rub off.

I nearly forgot to take a picture of the lids before I had recolored in the black lettering. All I use to touch up the letters...  is a standard black Sharpie to darken them with. And I had to redo all the lids. So they now all have shiny black lettering... yea!

This set had the option of having six pieces. The standard canisters being.... Sugar, Flour, Tea and Coffee. The two extra's to add to the set were Grease and Cookies. I have the Cookie canister for the pink set.

The Cookie canister is the same size as the Flour canister. And the Tea and Grease canisters are the same size also. (but I don't have a grease one to show you) And there was a matching shaker set... along with a spice rack... a cake carrier... and I believe a bread box. Just lots of wonderful shiny aluminum goodness.

There is entirely too much cuteness with these sets. Hard to have a sad drab kitchen, with some turquoise/pink love going on. I will never be the girl with the brown kitchen. Ever.

I guess it was a couple of weeks ago... but there was this amazing canister set (plastic/melmac) that was linked through "Her Library Adventures".... that has a "Rice" canister. 

Which I have never seen here in the States on my adventures. I have seen lots of Cookie canisters.... but not one Rice. I guess that says a lot about living in the South. Where we all believe that Cookies are more important than Rice! :)
